Barrick Gold Corporation has sold its 50% stake in the South Deep mine in South Africa to South African miner Gold Fields Limited for total consideration of US$1.525 billion.  Barrick acquired the mine as part of its acquisition of Placer Dome in January 2006.  Davies provided M&A, securities and tax counsel to Barrick.
